Vincent Rouse Sr., a Democratic candidate for the Middlesex Borough Council, was the leading vote getter in the primary for the governing body on Tuesday, June 10.
According to unofficial results, Rouse received 768 votes on Tuesday, 115 votes more than the leading Republican council candidate.
Two, three-year council terms are up in the November general election. No incumbents are on the ballot this year.
Running on the Republican ticket in the primary were Shannon Quinn, who received 653 votes, and Jennifer Clock, who received 587.
"Thank you, Middlesex Borough family,'' Rouse said in a FaceBook post after his strong showing. ''Your votes of confidence in this primary election have truly exceeded our expectations. The encouragement and unity from our community were absolutely outstanding.''
A first-time candidate, Rouse was pleased with the results and is looking forward to the general election.
''Because of your unwavering support, we now have an incredible opportunity to continue the mission and press forward toward a triumphant victory in November,'' he said. "Your belief in our vision and commitment to our community has laid a strong foundation. Let’s keep the momentum going - together, we can make lasting impact and build something great.
"Peace and love to each of you,'' he added. "Remember - United we stand, together we can!''
Middlesex Democratic Party Chair Monica Townsend said Rouse "will bring real solutions to real concerns in the borough.''
"A strong candidate for a strong Middlesex, Vincent represents an opportunity for Middlesex to hear from diverse voices and perspectives that aim to enhance our vibrant community,'' she said. ''Democrats stood strong in the June 10th primary, electing Vincent Rouse to be our candidate for Borough Council leading us into November's General Election.''
Rouse, 46, has lived in Middlesex for six and a half years, coming from Edison.
He works as a permanent substitute teacher at the Mauger Middle School in Middlesex.
He and his wife have two children, a son who attends Middlesex High School, and a daughter enrolled at Mauger Middle School.
"I have the privilege of contributing to the education and development of our youth,'' Rouse said in a statement on the Democratic Party's website. "It is an honor to be part of this vibrant community, helping to shape the next generation while embracing all that Middlesex has to offer.''
Part of his platform is "strengthening the relationship between the council and the Board of Education.''
He also calls for "financially responsible solutions that ease the burden on our residents'' and improving local infrastructure.
"Middlesex has the potential to lead the state by continuing to embrace its diversity,'' he wrote. "Our town is home to a rich blend of middle-class and working-class families, business owners, entrepreneurs, day workers, retirees, and people from various nationalities and backgrounds. You can find them all here in Middlesex, contributing to the fabric of our community.''
My Name is Vincent M. Rouse Sr. I am a 46-year-old resident of Middlesex, New Jersey. My family and I have lived here for the past six and a half years, having moved from Edison. We purchased our home from the Ford family, who had lived in Middlesex since the 1960s.
When we first came to view the home, Mrs. Ford was there to greet us. As she hugged our children, she said, “You all belong here.” Those words have stayed with us, as they perfectly capture our own sentiments—we belong here.
Since moving to Middlesex, we have met wonderful families, enjoyed many community festivities, and actively participated in local events. Our children are part of the Middlesex school system—our son attends Middlesex High School, and our daughter is enrolled at Mauger Middle School.
I, too, am deeply involved in the community as a permanent substitute teacher at Mauger Middle School. Every day, I have the privilege of contributing to the education and development of our youth. It is an honor to be part of this vibrant community, helping to shape the next generation while embracing all that Middlesex has to offer.
I chose to be a County Committee Person representing my district, because I am dedicated and committed to the vitality of Middlesex Borough. I believe that everyone deserves to be treated fairly and equally.
Middlesex has the potential to lead the state by continuing to embrace its diversity. Our town is home to a rich blend of middle-class and working-class families, business owners, entrepreneurs, day workers, retirees, and people from various nationalities and backgrounds. You can find them all here in Middlesex, contributing to the fabric of our community.
My vision for Middlesex is to ensure that our leadership reflects the diversity perspectives of our neighbors. I am committed to working for the residents, bringing balance to the council so that no one voice dominates. I want to continue building on the hope of our community by advocating for fairness, inclusion, and progress—ensuring that all residents feel heard and represented.
If elected, I will focus on several key issues that impact the residents of Middlesex:
1. Financially Responsible Solutions that ease the burden on our residents. We all understand that tax increases are sometimes necessary, but we cannot continue with drastic back-to-back increases. We must find ways to level the playing field so that our residents are not overburdened.
2. Strengthening the Relationship Between the Council and the Board of Education. As someone who works in our schools, I have come to know the educators who shape our children’s future. I plan to engage the district and community to improve our resources for greater support for students and teachers.
3. Improving Infrastructure. I will work on strategic approaches to improve our Borough’s water and sewage systems, roads, and public spaces. Proper infrastructure investment is key to maintaining the safety, efficiency, and overall quality of life for all residents.
United we stand, together we can!
